This site
is about the choices available to you if you wish to start studying
statistics with the Open University. It describes courses and possible
study routes, and gives you information which you might take into
consideration when making your decision. It also gives you help in
judging which of the possible routes is best for you. You will find
useful information by clicking on the STUDY ROUTES, COURSE QUIZZES and
TASTER PACKS links above, but please read what follows first.
There are two Level 2 30-credit statistics courses available:
Analysing data (M248)
Practical modern statistics
(M249)
If you are new to Open University study, you are advised to begin with
one of the Level 1 mathematics courses Discovering mathematics (MU123) or Using mathematics
(MST121), which include some basic statistics and are designed to help
you adjust to studying alongside your other commitments. For more
information, go to Maths Choices. The Level 2
statistics courses require some mathematical skills, which you can
acquire by studying MST121. If you have the required mathematical
skills and some experience of Open University study, you are advised to
start with Analysing data (M248) before you
embark on Practical modern statistics (M249).
More detailed advice on how to plan your studies is available under the
'How do you choose?' section.
You are strongly advised to contact your local OU
Regional Centre for further advice. You can also contact your
